This Sunday, we need to work because of the Labor Day holiday, so the weekly report will be moved to Saturday. This week has been a week of collapse, but I still gathered my spirits and started writing the weekly report, which is somewhat of a good thing. It also proves that publishing on a public platform will give me some extra motivation.
Learning#
English#
- I am keeping up with vocabulary memorization, aiming for 50 new words per day while also reviewing. I only completed the goal for the first three days this week.
Technology#
- Did not read any books.
- Started learning Rust for the Xth time. Finished reading the introductory chapters this week. Started taking a Rust-related course during spare time.
- Did not do any coding exercises. This paragraph will be kept as a reminder.
- Did not contribute to any open-source projects. I will keep this paragraph until I am capable of making pull requests to open-source projects.
Work#
- It was a stumbling week, but there were no major mistakes.
Life#
- This week, I experienced a severe outbreak of rhinitis and gastroenteritis, so I went to the hospital and got medication.
- History: None, except for a few videos on Bilibili. This time, I recommend the "History Research Room" and "Rick Zero".
- Leisure: Watched two episodes of "Slower Horse". Started playing "Frostpunk" again. I really like the feeling of planning everything neatly.
- Behavioral practice: None. I was in poor condition this week.
- Investment: A very good friend shared a private investment channel with an annual interest rate of over 8%. This part should come to an end. After that, I probably won't study other investment methods for a while, except for cryptocurrencies.
Some Thoughts#
The keywords for this week are "out of control" and "collapse". In the first three days, I experienced the most severe allergic rhinitis in my life, but at the same time, I strictly followed my own time planning and ultimately led to a complete collapse.
I stayed up late, overate, wanted to consume, refused to exercise and study, wanted to find a way to be happy but couldn't, and even doubted my ability to feel happiness. And staying up late, overeating, not exercising, and other behaviors made my physical condition worse, and I lost the ability to correct it in time.
Therefore, almost all progress this week stagnated due to factors such as illness and my own strictness. I originally reserved half a day of entertainment time on weekends and time to watch animations and videos on the elliptical machine, but in practice, I realized that studying, working, and exercising from morning till night were not enough time for these entertainments. This ultimately led to severe procrastination and a sense of meaninglessness. This also made me realize the importance of entertainment once again. Humans are not machines, at least I am not. Treating myself in a machine-like way will only lead to losing control like the protagonist in "The Shining".
Therefore, I made further adjustments to my schedule. I forcefully added half an hour of rest time each day, with half an hour for lunch as a work adjustment and one hour as free entertainment time in the evening, playing games or watching movies. At the same time, I will make sure to go out at least once a month. I will maintain these behaviors to better study and live, and continue to track and make adjustments.
In practice, I also vaguely feel that when I cannot feel happiness, engaging in unconventional forms of entertainment may be a better way to create. For example, when I am currently writing the weekly report or focusing on a piece of code, it is easier to immerse myself in a state of flow than simply inputting, thereby reducing the subsequent sense of meaninglessness.
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
